A Bonus Conversation in Times of Zoom
Human communication, fraught with the possibility for misunderstanding even when done face-to-face is facing (pun intended) another set of challenges when done via modern means of telecommunication, such as the now ubiquitous video conferencing platforms (i.e. Zoom, Teams, etc.). The following conversation has happened to yours truly and I’d like to record it for posterity:
Manager: And your bonus for last year will be buzz-brrrzt-fizz-thirty-three Euros.
Manager: [Silence filled with expectation.]
Employee: …
Employee: Sorry, but you kind of cut off when mentioning the amount.
