This year’s All OE SOTA Activity Day 2025 took place on Saturday, 13th September 2025. It coincided with the OE5 SOTA Day 2025. For this years OE/OE5 SOTA Activity Day I decided to activate OE/OO-073 „Schoberstein“. Prior to this activation I had activated the summit already three (3) times, so the ascend and the situation at the summit was well known to me. One of the biggest benefits of Schoberstein is the Schobersteinhaus, conveniently located just below the summit. My plan was to stay on summit for several hours (with the occasional refreshment from Schobersteinhaus) until either boredom or empty batteries would have forced me down.
Unfortunately, it didn’t get that way. On the drive to the parking place for the hike I found the following sign, informing me, that no car traffic would be allowed between 13:00 and 16:30.
As a consequence, I had to light a fire in my walking machine in order to get on summit, do some QSOs on HF and VHF (all those juicy S2S 😉 – thank you everyone!) and get down again (before 13:00). Unfortunately that meant that I was much to early for the post-activation meetup, which I decided to cancel in favour of attending the 20 year anniversary of my local RC plane club.

PPS: I hope what I perceive as my „bad luck“ concerning OE / EU SOTA Activity Days starts to change, and hopefully starting next year I’ll be able to attend many many many SOTA Activity Days without torrential rain, fire brigade exercises, scheduling conflicts, etc. .
