Recently I came across the Mini Mic made by Hannes, DL9SCO. It’s a neat little microphone designed with portable use in mind. It can be ordered via email and is shipped in a semi-transparent plastic box.

Opening the box I found a well made user manual, a microphone cable and the actual microphone protected by a foam inlay.

Here’s a size comparison with my current SOTA microphone, made by M0JKS. The Mini Mic is slightly larger but retains more of a „microphone“ feeling. Unfortunately the microphone cable delivered with the Mini Mic is a tiny bit too short. With my KX2 placed next to me on the ground I occasionally ended up lifting my radio by the cable while raising the Mini Mic to my lips.

I field tested the Mini Mic on OE SOTA Activity Day 2026 and received good reports – no change over using the previous microphone. I intend to keep testing both microphones side by side, updating this post whenever something worth sharing turns up.
